Intro to Mavericks
This project explores and analyzes the physics behind Mavericks, a wave phenomenon popular for surfers off the coast of Half Moon Bay, California. Following strong winter storms in the northern Pacific Ocean, waves can routinely crest at over 25 feet (7.6 m) and top out at over 80 feet (24 m). The question is: what creates this monster wave break? The project integrates knowledge of the environment with physics, to further understand their interconnectivity.
